Ahh, winter! With snow blanketing silent mountains,
and Northern Lights spiralling in the polar night sky,
Kola Peninsula seems like a fairy-tale world. A true
northern winter reigns up here, beyond the Arctic Circle,
beckoning with its beauty and promise of adventure. We
invite you to drive in 6 days with our comfortable
touring-car from the White Sea to Barents Sea and meet
all diversity customs and traditions many-sided Russia
North: Saami, Pomorsky, and – the recent history of
Pioneers of developing the North.
Visit:
Kandalaksha is the oldest city of Murmansk
region. Harbour on the White Sea.
Umba is a very old and small village founded
in a middle of XV century. It keeps a lot of very old
houses built in a very special style of sea shore
dwellers named Pomor's. The National Pomorsky museum
tells about history and Life of Tersky Coast-dwellers and
is full of old artifacts – witnesses of ancient time. A
famous ensemble of folk singing and dancing will show us
beautiful performance. We will see wonderful handicrafts
and adornments made of coloured and jeweller stones and
specific traditional articles made of natural materials.
Kirovsk and Apatity Cities are neighbours.
Kirovsk
is the major mountain – skiing centre in the
Northwest of Russia. Apatityis the largest
scientific centre in the Russian North.
The most of aboriginal Saami on the Kola Peninsula live
in the Lapland villageLovozero. The Saami are
excellent reindeer farmers and fishermen. They have quite
peculiar folklore and an ancient material culture.
Historical Museum in Lovozero has exhibition telling
about the history of Lappish people since deeply ancient
time. A folk concert of national Lappish dances will
bring us back in time of nomad encampments.
A capital of the Russian North,Murmansk is the
biggest in the world city above the Polar circle.
Nowadays 15 fleets – merchant, fishing, icebreaking and
research fleets are based here. Museum in Murmansk joins
the History of the whole Northern Navy. You will meet
daily life of the City-harbour.

Bus excursion tour description: |
Day 1, Friday:At 08.00 start from Rovaniemi. Lunch on
halfway in Alakurtti. Arrive in Kandalaksha; hotel check-in. In
evening a Russian restaurant awaits with drinks, a good meal and
fine music.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2, Saturday:Drive to Umba village. A walk through Old
Umba; a visit to Pomor’s Museum and to craft shops; watch a
performance by the Pomor Folk Ensemble. Lunch in a restaurant. Drive
to Kirovsk; hotel check-in. Dinner in a restaurant. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 3, Sunday: City tours in Kirovsk and Apatity. Visits to
Geological and Historical Museums and famous suovenir shop Salma.
Lunch in a restaurant. In evening a dinner in a bowling center.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4, Monday:Travel to the Lappish village of Lovozero.
The National Museum and a Lappish dance performance. Traditional
meal beside a campfire. Proceed to Murmansk and check-in at a hotel.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 5, Tuesday: Excursion through Murmansk. Visit the
Unknown Soldier memorial on the city’s highest point. Visit to the
Naval Museum. A visit to the harbour to view ships and icebreakers
with excursion to nuclear icebreaker Lenin. Lunch in restaurant.
Visit to Oceanarium. The late afternoon can be spent shopping and
exploring the city on one’s own. In the evening a farewell party in
an excellent restaurant with music and dancing.
Day 6, Wednesday:In the morning leave for the border at
Lotta (Finland). A basket lunch will be provided. Arrive in Ivalo
late afternoon.
